The Salvus "Sleeve-Lok" safety needle – The most user-friendly, versatile, low cost, safe needle around

Using a novel spring concept, the Salvus "Sleeve-Lok" safety needle is a re-design of the familiar hub, needle and shield.
The shield has been modified to act as a spring when assembled onto the conical needle hub, so that it retracts when pressed on the patient's skin during needle insertion. When the needle is withdrawn, the shield automatically springs back along the needle hub to keep the needle covered, and locks automatically to prevent injuries from the sharp needle tip.
Healthcare personnel will find that the Salvus "Sleeve-Lok" safety needle isn't any different to use than the conventional needle, and since the needle tip is visible at the start, accurate placing and orientation of the needle on the injection is simple. No special action is required to make the Salvus "Sleeve-Lok" safety needle safe – it locks automatically, and the lock is sufficiently effective that tools or destructive abuse are necessary to gain access to the contaminated needle.
Ultra-low cost is the result of elegant and simple design. Apart from the obvious
advantages to the end-user, manufacturing is simplified – the device is
exceptionally compact, there are only three components, and the materials are
commonplace.
The versatility of the technology means that two distinct versions are being developed in parallel however
they have common characteristics which will make either version readily identifiable to users.
